iTrace® is made possible through the generous support of the European Union and is overseen by the EU External Action Service. On 25 November 2013, by its Decision 2013/698/CFSP, the Council of the European Union designated CAR as technical implementing partner of the iTrace® Global Weapons Reporting System. Council Decisions 2015/1908/CFSP of 22 October 2015 and 2017/2283/CFSP of 11 December 2017 renewed the European Union’s commitment to iTrace®. The 2017 decision secured an additional 24 months’ worth of EU funding for the project, totalling EUR 3 474 322,77, with co-financing provided by the German Federal Foreign Office and CAR.

iTrace® also features the Policy Resource Centre (PRC), made possible through the initial support of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. European Union funding for 2015-2016 has enabled CAR to revise the PRC within the framework of a new iTrace® mobile application. This interface allows policy makers to switch seamlessly between the iTrace® system (the online map) and a comprehensive series of country-specific reports. PRC reports include: national laws and regulations; arms export reports; national reports on implementation of the UN Programme of Action; UN sanctions monitoring reports; and any additional, verified evidence of weapon trafficking.
